Kitesurf Lanzarote
Lanzarote is a great place to come and Kitesurf all year around. The most reliable time of year is summer when the Atlantic trade winds start to blow bringing a prevailing wind of NNE.
By far the most popular place for Kitesurfing in Lanzarote is the beautiful beach of Famara. Famara beach is about 5 kilometres long with golden sand and a dramatic back drop of 650 metre high cliffs.
The wind comes in from the right across the beach, so you go out on the starboard tack. There are normally some nice waves coming in for those wishing to practice kiteing on waves.
Kitesurfing in Lanzarote is not just about Famara beach, although in summer it almost always is. There are some other places on the east of Lanzarote where Kitesurfing can be good. Playa Honda near the airport is much flatter water for kitesurfers and it is the opposite tack fo Famara with wind coming along the beach from the left. Other Kitesurfspots include Matagorda to the north of Puerto del Carmen.
To Kitesurf in Lanzarote you would normally need kites in the region of 10 to 12 square metres for the winds which average in the 20 to 25 knot range.
An ideal place to stay if you come to Lanzarote to Kitesurf are the Famara bungalows which overlook the beach of Famara and all the kitesuring actions.
